Los Angeles Trade Technical College, Building “A”

IBI Group was contracted by Los Angeles Trade Technical College to provide Professional Architectural Engineering Services for the restoration and modernization of Building ‘A’. The Building Administration wing and existing Nursing, Cosmetology and General Classroom areas will be upgraded to meet the District’s current classroom design standards through renovation and restoration that achieves ADA compliance, seismic life/safety improvements and new infrastructure support systems. Scope included programming, space planning, design and construction documentation, approvals, FF&E, implementation and construction administration.

Building ‘A’ consists of three contiguous buildings constructed at different times and for different purposes. They include an auditorium (1924), a three-story classroom wing (1925) and a two-story administration building (1935).

The project consists of remodel and with seismic upgrade of the existing 73,000 sf administration and classroom wings together with the north and south courtyards structural upgrades and utility infrastructure as key improvements. Building ‘A’ is considered a historic resource as identified in the college EIR. Any maintenance or repair of any portion of Building ‘A’ shall be conducted in a manner consistent with the Secretary of Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties with Guidelines for Preserving, Rehabilitating, Restoring, and Reconstruction of Historic Buildings.
