South Region Middle School No. 3

The design of New Middle School #3 for District 6 of the South Region of the Los Angeles Unified School District accommodates 1,206 students in 38 Classrooms in 111,533 SF of building on a 5.37 acre urban site.

The facilities include a 2-story Classroom Buildings with underground staff parking and houses two small learning communities. A separate building provides shared functions including a gymnasium, lockers, multipurpose room, dining/cafeteria, performing arts, maintenance and administrative functions.

The design challenges included accommodating all required functions on a compact site while maintaining the mandated playground square footage. The campus includes a natural turf playfield, 5 basketball/volleyball courts, a student lunch shelter, and surface parking for staff. Spanish colonial or mission style architecture was selected by the community as a means of expressing its connection to an earlier era.
